This Privacy Policy explains how Orakle LLC, 1317 Edgewater Dr, #2367 Orlando, Florida 32804, United States (“Orakle”, “we”, “us”), handles information in connection with Expert’s Corner at experts-corner.com (the “Service”), our case-based learning site for healthcare professionals.
The short version. We collect what we need to run your account, record your participation in activities and issue certificates. One Orakle account works on both Expert’s Corner and DxTx, our clinical calculator site. The Service is supported in part by advertising and sponsored content, but advertisers do not receive your personal information. We use analytics only if you accept cookies, and we do not sell personal information.
Who the Service is for
Expert’s Corner is intended for healthcare professionals only. It is not intended for patients, the general public, students, or anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Orakle account
You can browse much of the Service without an account. If you create one, we hold:
- the details you enter: name, country, occupation, specialty, and email address;
- your Expert’s Corner email preference (whether you would like to hear from us);
- a learner ID that links your activity records to your account;
- whether you have confirmed your email address, when your account was created, and the dates you sign in.
One account, two sites. Your account is an Orakle account that also works on DxTx. Your email preferences for each site are kept separately: agreeing to Expert’s Corner emails does not sign you up to DxTx emails, and vice versa.
Signing in. There are no passwords. To sign in, we email you a link that works once and expires after 30 minutes. We store sign-in links and signed-in sessions only in scrambled (hashed) form, so they cannot be read back from our records.
When you take part in an activity
When you work through a case or other activity, we record your answers, decisions, confidence ratings, evaluation responses and, where you provide them, your name, email address and professional details, together with your learner ID. We use this information to:
- show you feedback and your own history of completed activities;
- issue certificates and, for accredited activities, enable credit to be awarded;
- measure the educational outcomes of our activities and improve them.
Accredited activities. Continuing education credit is certified by the accredited provider named on each activity’s page. We share participation information with that provider as needed to award credit and to meet its reporting obligations to accrediting bodies.
Supporters. Organizations that fund an activity, including through independent educational grants, receive only aggregated, de-identified reports (for example, numbers of participants and overall outcomes). They do not receive your name, contact details or individual answers.
Follow-up surveys. Some activities include an optional follow-up survey a few weeks later to measure their impact on practice. We send it only if you agree to receive it.
Paid surveys and advisory work
From time to time we may invite you, by email, to take part in paid surveys, advisory boards or similar research. Taking part is always optional. We share your details with a research sponsor or agency only if you agree to this when you accept an invitation, and we use payment details only to pay you and keep the records the law requires. We do not share your individual survey answers with a sponsor in a way that identifies you unless you agree to it.
Advertising and sponsored content
Expert’s Corner is free to use and is supported in part by advertising and sponsored content, which may come from pharmaceutical, medical device and other healthcare companies. Advertising and sponsored content are clearly labeled as such and are kept separate from accredited educational content.
Advertisers do not receive your name, contact details or other account information. We do not currently personalize advertising using your account details or browsing behavior. If we introduce advertising that uses cookies or personal information, we will update this Policy before doing so and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Information kept on your device
The Service uses your browser’s local storage for features you have chosen: a copy of your signed-in profile and a reference to your sign-in session, so that pages can show that you are signed in; your learner ID; the activities you bookmark; your progress within a case; and your cookie choice (see Cookies and analytics). Bookmarks and in-progress cases stay on your device and do not follow you to other browsers or devices. Logging out removes your profile copy and ends your session; clearing the site’s data in your browser settings removes everything stored on your device.
Cookies and analytics
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how Expert’s Corner is used — which modules are opened, how visitors arrive, and whether pages work as intended. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga and _ga_…, lasting up to two years) only after you choose “Accept” in the cookie notice shown on your first visit. If you choose “Reject”, or make no choice, no analytics cookies are set; the Google tag then sends only aggregate, cookieless signals that cannot recognize you or your device across visits. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, we do not send names, email addresses or free-text answers to Google, and Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google describes its own handling of this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choice. Your cookie choice is kept in your browser’s local storage (orakle_consent) for 12 months, after which you will be asked again. You can change it at any time via Cookie settings, also linked in the footer of the site.
Service providers and hosting
We use carefully selected service providers to serve the website, host our account and activity records, and deliver our emails. They process information only on our instructions and for those purposes, under agreements that require them to protect it, and we do not allow them to use it for their own purposes. Like virtually all web hosts, our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical logs when pages are requested — such as IP address, browser type, and the pages requested — for security and operational purposes. Information sent between your browser and the Service is encrypted in transit.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or to a successor organization if Expert’s Corner is transferred, in which case this Policy will continue to apply to your information.
Account emails. When you create an account or ask to sign in, we send you an email to confirm your address or to deliver your sign-in link. These are part of the account service and are sent whatever your email preference.
News and new activities. If you have opted in, we will send you updates about new activities and programs, which may include sponsored content. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such email or by contacting us.
Writing to us. If you contact us at support@orakleinc.com, we use your email address and message to respond and keep records of correspondence.
How long we keep information
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists, and you can ask us to delete it at any time. Records of participation in accredited activities may need to be kept for longer where the accredited provider or accrediting bodies require it, after which they are deleted or de-identified. Sign-in links stop working after 30 minutes or once used, and sessions end when you log out. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your request and maintain our records.
Your rights
You may ask us for access to the information we hold about you, and to correct or delete it; you may also withdraw consent to emails or object to how we use your information, subject to applicable law (including, where it applies to you, the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws). Where those laws apply, we rely on providing the service you have asked for (your account and activities), your consent (email news and follow-up surveys, which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests in measuring and improving our education and keeping the Service secure.
To make a request, contact us from the email address on your account. Because one account serves both Expert’s Corner and DxTx, deleting your account removes it from both. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We do not sell personal information.
International use
Orakle is based in the United States, and account and activity information is stored and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those of your country.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time; the “Last updated” date above reflects the current version. If we make material changes, we will indicate them on this page and, where appropriate, tell you by email.
